Yesterday was Imbolc. The time of year when we move into lighter days, begin to shed our protective coats, those hardened layers falling away after a tough time for most of us. A time for renewal.
In mid December ‘24, I was excited when Glasgow School of Art artist Karen Strang invited me to collaborate with her, and two other GSA artists, Ashley Cook and Claire Paterson. Their exhibition, Renewal: myth and alchemy, runs in the amazing space at the Fire Station Creative in Dunfermline, until March 2nd ‘25.
I collaborated with Karen in 2023, responding to one of her alchemical paintings, Vitriol of Venus. In the Words area of my website, you can find this video and poem along with my other work.
The three talented artists explore themes of folk history, memory, alchemy, mystery, mythology, the power and sensuality of nature, and transformation in their own distinct approaches. I am delighted to collaborate with Ashley, Claire, and Karen. My three poems are exhibited beside the work which has inspired them.
I loved the creative process, the discipline involved, and the performance. I’m ready for more collaborations! You may need to crank up the volume as my voice was affected by after effects of the flu. And WP playing up with captions. At least that’s my reason for them leaping about.
